Summer of Mindfulness

Summer is around the corner! πŸ– Each year, I try to think about how to make summer count. How can I take advantage of flexible schedules and more hours of daylight to travel somewhere new, learn something interesting, or just have more fun.


With the highs and lows of this enduring pandemic, it has been easier to "numb out", keep head down and just get through. Getting through is not the same as living fully. We owe ourselves the gift of conscious attention to our life experience as it is happening! So how about making this the Summer of Mindfulness? Themes are great because they can generate their own momentum. Here are some ways the Summer of Mindfulness can take shape:


1) Start a meditation or yoga habit.


2) Start a gratitude habit. Look for new things every day to be grateful for. Pay attention to the ordinary experiences of everyday life that are actually quite extraordinary.


3) Pay attention to things that catch your eye and take photographs. Focus on observation. Look for beauty, awe and art. Share your inspiring photos with your KinCloud.


4) When you find yourself floating in a pool, lying on a beach or sitting by a campfire, tune into the sights, sounds and smells. Really take notice of the sensations of summer.


There are many great definitions of mindfulness. Here is one from the staff of Mindful Magazine:


Mindfulness is the basic human ability to be fully present, aware of where we are and what we’re doing, and not overly reactive or overwhelmed by what’s going on around us.
